Professional private root canal treatment from White Dental Practice
Our experienced team use advanced dentistry techniques and the latest dental technology to provide the highest quality of dental care available.
As with any dental issues, prolonged treatment often makes the issues worsen so we always recommend treatment as soon as you notice something or get discomfort.
Root canal treatment is a highly effective procedure designed to save a tooth that is severely infected or damaged. During the treatment, the infected pulp is removed, and the root canal is thoroughly cleaned and sealed to prevent further infection. This procedure can help alleviate pain, restore function, and preserve your natural tooth, often avoiding the need for an extraction. If you’re experiencing tooth pain or sensitivity, consult with us to see if root canal treatment is the right solution for you.

FAQs
Depending how much of your tooth is effected by decay, we might require one of the following treatments.
What is root canal treatment?
Root canal treatment, also known as endodontics, is required when the tooth’s pulp (the blood or nerve supply) becomes infected due to decay or injury. In the early stages of infection, you might not experience any pain. However, in some cases, the tooth may darken in color, which could indicate that the nerve is dying or has already died. In such cases, root canal treatment is necessary.
Why is root canal treatment needed?
If the pulp becomes infected, the infection may travel through the tooth’s root canal system, possibly resulting in an abscess. An abscess is an inflamed area where pus builds up, leading to swelling in the surrounding tissues. The symptoms can vary from a mild ache to intense pain, and the tooth may feel tender when you bite. Without root canal treatment, the infection can spread further, and the tooth might eventually need to be removed.
Does it hurt?
No, typically a local anaesthetic is administered, and the procedure should feel similar to having a standard filling. You might experience some tenderness afterwards, but this should gradually improve over time.
Process of root canal treatment
The goal of root canal treatment is to eliminate all infection from the root canal. Afterward, the root is cleaned and sealed to prevent further infection.
Root canal treatment is a precise and time-intensive process. Most treatments require two or more visits to your dentist.
During the first visit, the infected pulp is removed, and any abscesses are drained. The root canal is then cleaned and shaped in preparation for the filling. A temporary filling is placed, allowing the tooth to heal.
The tooth is re-examined at a follow-up appointment, and once all the infection has been cleared, the tooth is permanently filled.
What about aftercare?
- Teeth that have undergone root treatment should be cared for just like any other tooth. Be sure to brush for two minutes, twice daily, using fluoride toothpaste. Limit sugary foods and drinks, ideally reserving them for mealtimes. Visit your dentist regularly for check-ups as recommended.
